I was very sad to learn that The Pulse was changing formats. Gary and the guys did a great job and I enjoyed the News/Talk format. The Pulse's local coverage was way better than their in-town rival. FoxNews Radio is also miles ahead of ABC Radio News, IMHO. Heard Styles gloating this morning about 'crushing' another competitor and I felt nauseous. He stated that WGOW has the Talk Radio market cornered in Chattanooga and that they have the money and the programming to remain dominant. He said that no one should even bother going up against them Kevin and JR chimed in as well, being obedient Cumulus soldiers. Although Kevin did say that he hated to hear of fellow broadcasters losing their jobs. I was thinking back to the early days of Talk FM, before Citadel bought it. Didn't Styles and Kevin both jump ship at WGOW and swim over to 102 back then? Styles had better be careful. I don't know what WGOW's contract is like with Limbaugh, but isn't he distributed by Premiere Radio Networks, which is a division of Clear Channel? What if CC decides to get in the Talk Radio game in Chattanooga? Their pockets are plenty deep enough to give Cumulus a run for their money. CC could always flip 98.1 or 105.5 to a Talk format...

I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner. Frankly, I never got the impression mgmt. at WPLZ or Brewer Media ever considered the listeners desires in their decision making. They brought Jammer in with much fanfare & promptly began messing around with his timeslot to the point he finally gave up. Matt Estes co-hosted some morning show called McGee & Me that I don't think lasted two weeks. Chris Peddie was hired as the PM newsman and was gone in a couple of months. Stuart James hung around a couple of months and then left. They replaced the Jason Lewis show with more Wall Street Journal filler. I can't even count the number of times I tuned in on the weekend to hear dead air which sometimes lasted for hours. It's a shrewd move to flip formats to country music. Afterall, it's obvious our market is underserved with the six or so established stations carrying it.

Cat Country 95.3 Brings Today’s Country to Airwaves in the Tennessee Valley
Brewer Media launches Cat Country 95.3, offering a contemporary country format for both country and contemporary hits listeners.CHATTANOOGA, TN. (January 3, 2011) – Brewer Media announces the launch of the new Cat Country 95.3, featuring today’s country hits and some recent favorites. You’ll hear artists like Eric Church, Rascal Flatts, Lady Antebellum, Jason Aldean, Taylor Swift, Toby Keith, Miranda Lambert, the Zac Brown Band and more. Cat Country 95.3 will have a young/hip delivery in its on air presentation with local announcers and fun promotions. According to Jim Brewer, II, President, “We’re excited to bring Cat Country to Chattanooga as an alternative for country music listeners. A year ago when “The Duke” left the format, they also left a huge audience without a home. An example is with Women 18-49; WUSY had a 9.8% share while “The Duke” had a 5.7% share. Today with “The Duke” gone, WUSY has rebounded to a 17.6% share. We feel that with our signal from atop Signal Mountain, we can be very competitive and take a great deal of those share points”. Cat Country will just be playing music initially and then introducing an on air staff in the coming weeks. As a member of Chattanooga’s Broadcast Community for over 30 years, Brewer Media serves Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia with five distinctive radio formats, as well as a traffic network supported by 14 radio stations and 3 television stations. (Ratings from Arbitron Summer 2010) # # # For more information about Cat Country 95.3, please contact Josh Weber, Program Director, Cat Country 95.3 at (423) 242-7639 or JoshW@Brewerradio.

Brewer Broadcasting has used the "Cat Country" name and logo before. WAYA 93.9 in Athens was their original "CC" from about 2003 to 2007. The station did quite well, had a great sound, had advertisers...then was shut down and sold in November, 2007. Strange that they would go back to "Cat Country"....or to country at all.

Looks like today was the first day on air for the Cat Country airstaff. The lineup is as follows:
6-10AM - Rob Ryan - formerly from KZ106 & 107.9 The Duke.
10-3PM Erica Taylor
3-7PM - Josh Webber (also PD) - formerly was at US101 as APD.
7-Mid - "Longneck at Night"
All local, mostly live....

Anyone else scratching their head when they see that Josh was the APD at WUSY? When I was there he was a production assistant and then the stupid OM upped him to programming assistant, but never APD of WUSY. He never scheduled a country music log and has never had a fulltime live airshift. If my memory serves me right he scheduled music for the legend for 2 months before premium choice. That's it. Also is Erica Taylor his wife? Never been on the air.... Not a way to compete with a heritage station.... I give it less than a year.

Matt Estes co-hosted some morning show called McGee & Me that I don't think lasted two weeks. so when did this happen? Happened around a year ago after Max Hackett passed away. I thought it was pretty good. Then one day everyone was gone & replaced with the cheerful Wall Street Journal drones.

this stupid website gets their panties in a wad over crap too much. get over it. this website might be stupid. as a matter of fact I'm sure the future will prove it to be. but this website has been back for literally days. so this website doesn't do anything "too much." Not yet anyway. the radio industry is not exactly very vibrant right now and anybody who lets a silly little message board, and people chatting about it locally, get to them obviously has quite a short shelf life left in this business. worry about your product, not what a dozen or so radio guys are talking about on the internet. This isn't 2002 anymore. This "website" has zero penetration into anything relevant. Maybe that will change, doubt it, but maybe. To stay on topic. The Brewer's doing country is really the only option they have at this point. I think Country radio sucks but it still has an audience. I don't know who any of these on-air folks are but if they are indeed local I applaud that and am happy these dudes have some work. Just make sure you check your e-mail, txts, faxes, & voicemail. Never can be too sure when you have or have not been fired. Oh, check your snailmailbox too. I wouldn't know what good country radio sounds like so I'll be checking here regularly to see what others are saying. Good Luck.
